Following the efforts to resuscitate the power national grid, Kaduna, Zaria and Gusau, the capital of Zamfara, remain in darkness due to a loss of bulk power supply from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Abdulazeez Abdullahi, the head of corporate communication at the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric), said that a 330 Kilovolt bulk circuit in Agwaji-Benue-Jos which tripped caused the outage on Monday morning.

Abdullahi also said that attempts to resuscitate it failed and its customers in some parts of the North Central, most parts of the North East and north-western states would face blackouts for an unspecified number of days or hours.

“The Management of Kaduna Electric regret to inform its valued customers in Kaduna and environs, Zaria as well as Gusau in Zamfara State that the power outage currently being experienced is as a result of the loss of bulk power supply from Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN),” the statement reads.

“A communication received from TCN indicated that the Agwaji-Benue-Jos 330KV bulk circuit tripped this morning and a trial was made after a few minutes but the line tripped again on the same indication.

“Consequently, bulk power supply to some parts of North-Central and most parts of North-East and NorthWest States is being interrupted. Meanwhile, the TCN Engineering crews have commenced patrol of the line with the view of identifying and rectifying the fault.”

On Saturday, the national grid suffered a major setback after it collapsed twice in 24 hours.

An FIJ explainer showed a common reason for the nationwide outage and power grid failure in Nigeria is the failure to generate enough electricity to meet overall electricity demands.
