Some trending videos of sexual assault have caused an uproar on microblogging platform X after a man identified as Ohis Emmanuel was filmed admitting to having sexually abused two teenage girls.

In one of the three videos which have received over 5.5 million views, Emmanuel admitted to having sexually molested Favour, a 13-year-old and Fathia, the latter’s friend.

This followed interrogations by Gbemisola Salami (popularly known as DJ Kulet), who has since announced that she has called off her eight-month marriage to Emmanuel.

Favour was heard saying in the video that Emmanuel was fond of molesting her and her friend every night.

The accused on the other hand blamed his criminal actions on the devil while Favour’s mother, whose voice was also captured in the video, said he was “afflicted” with the promiscuity that made him assault the girls.

“He used to molest me and my friend Fathia every night. Any time we come to my friend’s street. He is always sucking our breasts and he will bring out his private part and ask that we should massage it,” the child said.

Emmanuel’s abuse of the teenagers is one of the numerous sexual abuse cases that have made the news in 2024. Some of them made the news but have been carried into the new year without prosecution or updates on the offenders.

FIJ highlights some of these cases with accused molesters yet to be prosecuted.

7-YEAR-OLD ENUGU GIRL RAPED BY SEPTUAGENARIAN

In November, a 7-year-old girl in Ndeaboh, Aninri, Enugu State was raped by a neighbour who was in his 70s. Joe Okeke, the abuser, raped the child thrice before the act was discovered.

The rapist molested the child when Friday Izuigwe, her father who is a farmer, was away from home.

Izuigwe found out about the abuse his daughter had been subjected to after she complained of pain in her private part. He then involved the police who arrested Okeke.

But then the police later asked that the father of the victim pay N130,000 as a “mobilisation fee” if he wanted them to arraign Okeke. Afterwards, they asked that he accept N200,000 from the old man as the compensation he was willing to pay.

FIJ reported that the police kept acting as though they were reluctant to prosecute the case.

When FIJ called Daniel Ndukwe, the public relations officer for the Enugu police command, he said he had no details of the incident and would provide updates later but he never did.

ONE-YEAR-OLD RAPED BY BUSINESSMAN IN AKWA IBOM

Nsikak Akpan, a businessman in Betem, Cross River, was accused of raping his tenant’s one-year-old child in September.

This was only months after the baby’s mother moved into Akpan’s compound. On the day the incident happened, Akpan was said to have grabbed the one-year-old who was playing with his seven-year-old son.

He raped her to the point of ejaculating before escaping into the bush after the baby’s cries attracted their neighbours. When the baby was taken to a nearby pharmacy, sperm and blood were found on her and she was also bleeding excessively.

After Akpan was apprehended, he confessed to the crime and attempted to offer N5 million to the Betem Youths Council to conceal his crime, which they refused.

They reported the case but when FIJ called the police for responses, they said they were not aware of the case.

14-YEAR-OLD TAKEN TO SHRINE AFTER BEING RAPED BY EX-YOUTH LEADER

In September, Phillip Oyibo Awani, a former youth leader in Okere, a community in Warri, Delta State, invited a 14-year-old to a shrine to prove his innocence after he was accused of raping her.

This was after the teenager was ‘arrested’ and ‘detained’ at a town hall close to Awani’s house for robbery. The girl was accused of taking money from her friend’s home.

This situation angered the friend’s mother who then raised the alarm. The judgement from the alarm was that the girl would be flogged by youths in the community but she ran off.

However, she was captured and locked up in the town hall. That night, Awani who stayed close to the town hall transferred her to his room and told her he could drop the charges against her if she allowed him to sleep with her.

The teenager obliged but when she told her grandmother, Awani then invited the family to his shrine to prove his innocence.

When FIJ contacted Awani and the Delta State Police, there was no response.
