The National Assembly has nominated Asiya Ganduje, daughter of Umar Ganduje, Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Kano State Governor, and Muhamad Wamakko, son of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former Sokoto State Governor, to serve as directors in the newly formed North-West Development Commission (NWDC).
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President, co-signed the letter containing the decision.
According to the letter, which was addressed to President Bola Tinubu, 11 people will head departments in the NWDC, with Wamakko assigned to the Planning, Research, Statistics and Management Information System.
Ganduje was assigned to the Community and Rural Development department.

The letter was titled, ‘Joint Proposal of the Speaker and the Deputy President of the Senate for Those to Serve as Directors of Departments of the North-West Development Commission’.

It read, “Below are the names jointly proposed to Your Excellency for approval as Directors of Departments of the North-West Development Commission.
“On behalf of the good people of North-West Nigeria, we thank Your Excellency for the establishment of this Commission. May Allah reward Your Excellency for your consistent love for the people of the North-West zone. May Allah continue to guide and protect Your Excellency as you strive to lead our nation to prosperity.”
The legislators also nominated Khalil Bako for Administration and Human Resources, Mustapha Ahmed Ibrahim for Environmental Protection and Control, Utilities Infrastructural Development, Sanusi Bala Turaki for Finance & Supply, Muhammed Kabir Sani for Legal Services, Malik Anas for Solid Minerals & Agriculture, Alhasan Sidi Suleiman for Commercial & Industrial Development, Ahmed Mohammed for Projects Monitoring and Supervision, and Garba Aminu for Youths & Women Affairs Development.
In January, the presidency announced Umar Ganduje’s appointment as the board chairman of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), a position he holds while occupying the chairmanship seat of the ruling political party.
