The Lagos State Police Command has exhumed the body of Christianah Idowu, the 300 Level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) who Ayomide Adeleye, a 200 Level Philosophy student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), confessed to killing.

The police exhumed her body from a shallow grave in Adeleye’s compound on Monday and took it to a pathologist to conduct an autopsy.

Rita Ozobia, Idowu’s widowed foster mother, told FIJ during a telephone interview on Monday that the police visited the Ita Oluwo area in Ikorodu, where Adeleye resided, and dug up the grave.

“They came and finally carried her body today,” Ozobia told FIJ on Monday. “They said they would take her for autopsy and then we can have the body tomorrow [Tuesday].

“We will put her body in a mortuary and then bury her on Thursday. Thank God the police have finally exhumed her.”

The police discovered Idowu’s body on September 7, two days after taking Adeleye from men of the 174 Battalion who apprehended him in his house.

On Monday, FIJ called Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos Police spokesman. He did not answer the phone calls. Hundeyin also did not respond to a text message FIJ sent to him.

Idowu had set out to the Yaba area of Lagos on August 19 when it began to rain. She then sought shelter in a shop belonging to Adeleye’s family. Idowu and the suspect were friends and members of the same church.

In his confession to the army, Adeleye detailed how he invited Idowu into his house, attempted to take advantage of her, killed her and then sent a picture of her propped-up dead body to her widowed mother.

This led to a 13-day search for Idowu. The search ended when the military tracked Adeleye to his house and found Idowu’s phone with him.
