Priscilla Ayodele, a courier service worker, paid Kehinde Adekeye N300,000 on November 19 for an apartment. On November 29, Adekeye told Ayodele that the house had been sold without his consent. Now, he wants to rent the supposed sold-out house to Ayodele’s sister.
Ayodele told FIJ on December 8 that she got the advert about the apartment from a friend, a three-room apartment located at Veterinary Junction in the Mokola area of Ibadan.
“Adekeye told us the house belonged to his late mom. After seeing him, we made the payment into his Opay account on the 19th of November. The apartment was meant for my mom, not for me,” Ayodele said.

The agreement was for Ayodele’s mother to move into the house by December 1. Two days before December 1, Adekeye called Ayodele to tell her that the house had been sold by his family members without his knowledge.
“He told me on November 29 that the house had been sold by his family members without his consent, and that refund will be made on the 30th of November,” Ayodele told FIJ.
“I told him, ’30th of November is tomorrow because you are calling me today that is 29th of November.’ He said yes, he knows, and that he would make payment on the 30th of November.”
On the promised date, Adekeye defaulted on the payment and failed to contact Ayodele.
“On December 1, he said he would make payment on the 8th. He said he doesn’t even need that long to refund, but he would refund at most, 8th of December. So, I had to wait behind in Ibadan since I was the one who made the payment,” Ayodele said.
In a bid to further pacify Ayodele, Adekeye told her that the house dispute had been escalated to Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, a radio station where people who want to avoid the court could use the alternative dispute resolution means to settle cases.
To test the authenticity of Adekeye’s claims, Ayodele got one of her sisters to disguise herself as a new customer who needed to rent a house.
When Ayodele’s sister contacted Adekeye for the same house, he told her that the supposedly sold and disputed house was still available for rent.
FIJ also posed as a customer seeking to rent a house in Mokola. The location Adekeye told FIJ matches the exact house he told Ayodele was already sold.

FIJ called Agidigbo FM numerous times on Wednesday but they did not pick up the phone. The email sent to them also failed to deliver.
When FIJ spoke to Adekeye on Tuesday, he said the house dispute was still being heard at Agidigbo FM.
To confirm whether the house he told FIJ and Ayodele’s sister was still available was different from the one he claimed his family sold behind his back, FIJ asked if he had any other house around Veterinary Junction in Mokola, but he said that he only owned one house in the area.
