A BBC investigation titled ‘Racism for Sale’ has exposed a Chinese, Lu ke, exploiting underaged Africans via commercial film making.

The BBC Eye Africa investigation carried out by investigative reporters Runako Celina and Henry Mhangoan was aimed at revealing the man behind a racially degrading video of young black kids saying they are black monsters and their IQ is low in Chinese without knowing.

The video, which was posted on a Facebook group page in February 2020, started a journey which exposed the activities of Lu Ke.

In the course of the investigation, reporters found out that the video of interest was not the only one online.

“These videos (personalized videos) typically sell for anything between $10 and $70. For some weird reasons, video featuring Africans have become especially popular. Sometimes, it’s a group of young muscular men, other times, it’s women in fancy dress. Often it’s kids usually standing around a blackboard, shouting those greetings in Chinese,” Celina explained.

Celina said although some of the videos might be considered innocent or cute, others were sexualised videos of kids.

Using open source intelligence, the team traced the video to Lilongwe and Kamwendo, Malawian villages where many of the videos were shot by the Chinese, popularly known as Susu.

Under the guise of teaching the Chinese culture and language, Susu was profiting from the exploitation of Malawian kids, paying them only about half a dollar a day while making tens of thousands, hitting them and preventing them from going to school.
