In the wake of trending testimonies about Nigeria Police Force (NPF) misconduct across time on X, a 26-second video has emerged of three yet-to-be-identified young men being manhandled by policemen. EQ has confirmed that the policemen were with the Edo Command.

EQ first saw the video on X from The General Show, a user. The user captioned the video, “Whatever Kemi [Badenoch] said Nigerian Police did. They did it.”

This post was in response to an interview by Badenoch, the British Conservative Party leader of Nigerian origin, where she said the police in Nigeria stole from her brother.

Badenoch’s comment has since generated reactions with people sharing their bitter experiences with members of the NPF.

In the short clip, five police officers held three young men as they tried to shove them into a white police van.

One of the officers, who was backing the camera, held a young man who had stripped to only his briefs. The young man who spoke Pidgin English kept asking what he had done. He pleaded for people to come to his rescue.

“What have I done to you? What have I done? You people should come and help me. Call Paul. What have I done to you?” the young man said.

Eleven seconds into the video, the police officers tried to push another young man in a white shirt and jeans into the vehicle, but he resisted. In response to his action and the screaming of the other young man, the police officer could be heard saying in Yoruba language, “You are a thief and looking for an escape.”

Just behind them, three more officers struggled with another yet-to-be-identified man as they attempted to force him into the vehicle.

All of this happened while cars passed by and onlookers watched.

To determine when and where this video was recorded, EQ subjected this clip to a reverse image search. This was done with InVid, a video verification tool, which showed that Ekpoma Blog, an Instagram page, had shared the video six days earlier.

Ekpoma Blog suggested that the harassment happened in Benin, the capital of Edo State. One comment EQ found on X also suggested the same.

EQ went further to determine the exact location of the incident. Using the Google Reverse Image Search, EQ was able to determine that the assault happened right in front of Yakon Enterprises Nig Limited.

As highlighted in the picture.

This private company is located at 71, Akpakpava Street, Benin, Edo, Benin, Edo State.

However, EQ could not confirm if the video was shared on the internet the same day it happened.

When EQ called Moses Yamu, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, for a response on the conduct of the officers as seen in the video, he did not answer. Yamu had not responded to a WhatsApp message at press time.
