Another Lagos Resident Waiting for N212,000 Refund From Dana Air

Aliu Imiefuo Emmanuel, a Lagos resident, has joined the list of numerous customers anticipating refunds from Dana Airlines after it cancelled flights in April.

Emmanuel had booked two tickets for his parents in the same month the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) suspended Dana Air’s operation. He has since waited expectantly for months for an update from Dana Air regarding his refund.

He told FIJ on September 3 that he had booked two tickets for his parents’ visit because his sister was relocating, but the journey remained on their minds and never came to fruition.

“I made the flight booking for Abuja–Lagos on April 1. It was a return trip for my dad and a one-way trip for my mum. The tickets cost N212,000. My sister was relocating, so they were coming to visit,” Emmanuel told FIJ.

“My sister’s flight was rescheduled to an earlier date, and I had to change their flight date. I paid N10,800 extra to change their dates. It was that same month their licence was suspended.”

The Lagos resident had to book another flight with another airline so his parents could travel since he could no longer rely on Dana Air. The airline did not contact him to inform him if he would get a refund and also failed to respond to his calls.

“I contacted them to inquire what the plan was since their licence was suspended and if I would get a refund, but there was no response. I called all through May,” Emmanuel said.

“Their customer centre number used to be reachable until August. Whenever I called, it would ring but no one would pick it up. I went to their stand at the airport and did not meet anybody.”

When FIJ emailed Dana Air on Friday, an error message stated the email airline’s email inbox was full. FIJ also sent the airline a message on WhatsApp on Thursday, but there was no response.

Dana Air had not responded at press time.

Since the NCAA suspended the airline’s operation after one of their planes with registration number 5N BKI, which had 83 passengers onboard, landed at the Lagos airport runway and veered off into a nearby field in April, FIJ has reported the stories of many customers expecting their refunds with no word from the airline.

FIJ also reported that the airline had missed the two-week deadline the NCAA gave it to clear its customer refund backlog.

There is a long list of Dana Air customers still waiting. Emmanuel is one of them.
