The Sagamu Road Police Station has refunded the N119,000 its men extorted from Braimoh Abdulmatin, a content creator, in Lagos.

On Thursday afternoon, Abdulmatin and his father visited the station after FIJ spoke with representatives of the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) and the Lagos Police Command.

There, they met with the DPO and narrated how the men dragged the content creator and his friend into their van at Ijede and drove them to the station on Monday.

They also recounted how no fewer than six policemen accused him of cultism, tied him to a pole, flogged him and then made him raise N119,000 to pay them.

FIJ reported the incident on Thursday.

Speaking with FIJ after meeting the DPO, Abdulmatin said, “They have refunded my money. Thank you very much.

“The DPO was hammering on the cultist allegations. They went through my phone, saw scripts for my content, and assumed they were slang for cultists. I told them I was not a cultist. He counted cash and handed it over to us.”

Abdulmatin said the DPO did not allow him to identify the policemen who robbed him and did not say anything about sanctioning them.

FIJ relayed this to the Lagos Police Command, but as of press time, they were yet to react.
