After FIJ’s Report, NIS’ Festus Philip Refunds Lagos Couple’s N130,000

Festus Ikhake Nasamu Philip, a senior immigration officer at the Nigerian Immigration Office (NIS) in Akowonjo, Egbeda, Lagos, has made a refund of N130,000 to Folake Oke and her partner, a day after FIJ’s publication on the matter.

Oke confirmed to FIJ that the senior immigration made the refunds in tranches of N50,000 and N80,000 between 10 am and 2 pm on Tuesday.

She told FIJ that after the story was published, Philip, who had previously taken not her calls, called to apologise and promised to pay their refund.

“He initially said he would pay by month end but he sent everything today, saying that his job is at stake,” Oke told FIJ.

The Lagos resident also said that she received a call from Dapo Aina, the public relations officer of the NIS in Egbeda, asking her to visit tomorrow.

Philip also confirmed to FIJ that he had sent the N130,000 refund to Oke.

On Monday, FIJ reported how the couple had waited for seven months to get a refund from the officer after they paid him N230,000 for their international passport renewal.
